I love travelling and I love photography!

Hey guys, I am Anıl Uzun and today I’ll talk to you about a very dear hobby of mine apart from travelling— that is photography.

Photography is strictly related to travelling because you record your memories, take photos to post on your blog or you print them, sell them maybe? Why not?

First talk about what it is.

What is photography?

Everywhere we look whether you are browsing this very page right now or walking past a billboard on your way home includes still images that carry a meaning or make artistic expressions upon us. There is the reason why I love photography – it is everywhere and such an art form that it is an integral part of our daily lives, distinguishing itself from other forms in that aspect. So I wanted to talk about my travel journey- that is photography and will be publishing a series of posts I hope you would find entertaining, informative or even better, both.

When you look it up you would read the definition of “creating durable images […]” however thinking about the impact of social media and the dazzling speed of internet age, I beg to differ as photographs are as quickly consumed as any other “product” of our times. Accessibility of DSLR cameras or mobile phones with decent lenses and broadband internet to masses has had its pros and cons. As the art became more widely “constructible”, more talented photographers appeared however the exponential inflation of the number of photographs quickly degraded the overall quality and the durability of their power of expression on us. You will be a more distinguished traveller if you can manage to take good photos.

Photography is not appreciated enough

Photography did not get a particular treatment, though, we got to accept the fact that anything that could be accessed via your mobile is about to plummet as it has skyrocketed prior to that and, well, live with it.

Although your basic equipment would be a camera, may it be analog or a DSLR/mirrorless one, mobile phone photography is not to be underestimated anymore since with compatible attachments certain models can even shoot decent macro photos. And it is convenient if you are travelling but why nıt be more pro and carry around good gear? I guess this needs its own post so I will delve deeper into this in the forthcoming days, so stay tuned.

So, anyway, where were we? Ah yes, the enchanting world of photography. It is such a powerful, yet-relatively-simpler-to-exercise form of art that even an nth reiteration of the black and white photo of an old man effectively detailing all the wrinkles on his face or one of kids with runny noses smiling at the camera will still tingle your aesthetic senses.

Hard to master

Best video games on earth are generally those that are easy to learn, hard to master and photography definitely falls into that category although it has few to do with miniguns or aliens. Pick it as a hobby and you are in a minute and when you want to take it to the next level, there is a whole new world to discover – starting with the very fundamentals of photography to techniques and equipment and post-production tweaks that will make it stand out. As it might require you to go out and take pictures, it is a very effective way of socializing as well with clubs you could find online or at your school/workplace to get to know other people and their way of perspective of photography.

All in all, being the intellectual and social animals we are, photography definitely hits very basic nerves that make us human – and take a lot of awesome photos along the way!

Happy travels!

Anıl Uzun
