A fairy tale city: Bremen

Hello everyone! Today we are flying to Bremen: a city of fairies.

Ever since I was little, I used to listen to the tale of the Town Musicians of Bremen. The Town Musicians of Bremen was still one of my favorite fairy tales when I grew up. Then I started searching, where was this Bremen? What kind of city was it? The photos I saw impressed me a lot. It was a magical fairy tale city. And I had to go see it right away ☺

Introduction to Bremen

Bremen, a port city, has a rich history for centuries due to its commercial activity. So much so that this date goes back to 1200 years ago. In addition to its commercial history, with the proclamation of Charlemagne in 787, this small but important city became the spiritual center of the diocese. Hosting and partnering with important trade agreements, Bremen became a free empire in 1646.

Bremerhaven, which is one of the most important ports in Europe today, was founded in 1827 and is 58 km from the center of Bremen. This port, which adds wealth to the city, is one of the most important economic pillars of Bremen.

Since Bremen is a port city, seafood attracts a lot of attention from tourists; herring, eel, and silverfish are among the most popular seafood. You can taste the region-specific Kluten chocolate and Bremen wines, have fun in the nightlife that is quite lively, buy gifts for your loved ones from the souvenir shops, or enjoy the fresh air by cycling around the city. We can also understand that Bremen is a lively, fun and lively city that will meet all kinds of demands expected from a trip.

Places to visit in Bremen

Without forgetting that Bremen is a commercial center and important industrial moves, we can say that the cultural activities of Bremen date back to ancient times. Things like music festivals, movie premieres, and symposiums are organized many times during the year. When we look at the places to visit in Bremen, I will give you a few examples from the top of the list; Schnoor viertel, Bremen Town Hall, St. Peter’s Cathedral, Bremer Stadtmusikanten (Memorial of the Town Musicians of Bremen), Buergerpark and urban forest, Ubersee Museum, Boettcherstrasse, Kunsthalle Bremen, Beck’s Beer Tour, Rhododendron Park, Universum Science Center (a must-see!), Schutting, Focke Museum, Knoops Park , Neues Weserburg Bremen Museum, Drop Tower, Bremer Geschichtenhaus, Historische Altstadt, Dom St. Petri, Statue of Roland. These are at the top of my list. If you are going to Bremen, I would say you should definitely see these places and let yourself be enchanted by the city.

When to go to Bremen?

Bremen, summer or winter, is always beautiful and magical. So you can go whenever you want. Of course, it is colder in winter, but as long as you have a thick coat and hot wine to drink, none of this will be a problem ☺ Especially if you come across the Christmas Markets, I can guarantee you will have a lot of fun.

What to eat in Bremen?

Brunswick is a delicious turkey meal. This taste, which is a must try by visitors to Bremen, is a flavor you can easily find in restaurants.

Bratwurst is a German sausage made from veal, beef or pork. This flavor, which is also served with German potatoes, is one of the must-eats not only in Bremen but also all over Germany. Because the taste can be different everywhere ☺

Braunschweiger is one of the foods that is also a German sausage, but made only from pork and consumed by everyone.

Spargel (asparagus) is one of the most popular German foods. All the Germans I know love to consume this vegetable. Served with boiled potatoes, this dish is a nice option especially for vegetarians.

Welf Pudding is one of the desserts you can prefer in Bremen. German sweets are famous, you know. This local delicacy is a good suggestion for those who crave sweets.

You can remember me when you go to Bremen and wander the streets ☺ That’s all for now.

See you in the next blog post!
