A Medieval City: Tallinn

Greetings to all my traveling friends!

Today I will tell you about my delightful holiday in Tallinn, one of the most charming cities in Northern Europe.

Tallinn is a great city that not many people know about and don’t give a chance to. Since not many people know, let’s initially reveal to you a little bit about Tallinn.

About Tallinn

Tallinn is a small, peaceful city with 450 thousand inhabitants, the city is the capital of Estonia. What persuaded me to visit the place the most was its calm vibe and silent blues. Apart from the quiet and calm atmosphere in Tallinn, the second thing that attracted me was the curiosity about medieval Europe. If you are also interested in such historical topics and have planned a trip to Tallinn, congratulations that is such a brilliant trip plan my friend!

How to get to and where to stay in Tallinn?

First, you will definitely not have trouble getting in Tallinn. Since it is a capital city, there are direct flights from many countries. You can use many transportation options such as taxi, bus, and tram to get from the airport to the city center in Tallinn. Another advantage of Tallinn is that it is a small city, so you can walk anywhere. In the 4-5 days I spent in Tallinn, I virtually didn’t drive a vehicle in the city and had the chance to explore the city more. Accommodation in Tallinn is also considerably easy. I stayed in the Old Town (Vanalinn) area. There are affordable hotel and hostel options available in this area. It will be a logical decision for you, as most of the activities you will do will also be in the Old Town area.

What to do in Tallinn?

The fashionable place in Old Town or even Estonia is definitely Town Hall Square. This square is one of Tallinn’s most popular places. Concerts and celebrations are also held in the square, which includes many cafes and restaurants around it. At the start, when I was talking about this lovely city, I mentioned its relationship with the medieval ages. Old Town is one of the best places to give you this feeling. So much so that even where you eat in this square will give you that medieval feeling. The place I like the most about this concept is definitely the Olda Hansa restaurant. This is already an extremely popular place among other tourists. Close to this restaurant you can also see one of the most historic pharmacies in Europe. We’re talking about a magnificent city that smells of history all over the place.

Nightlife in Tallinn – No so great

I don’t know if it’s too late to tell, but if you’re looking for entertainment and nightlife, Tallinn is a city that won’t satisfy you. The thing about this city is that it preserves its history and is intertwined with it. One of these historic sites is St. Olaf’s church. Believed to be the tallest structure of the fourteenth century, the St. Olaf’s church has a total length of 123.7 meters. By paying a fee of 2 euros, you can climb as high as 60 meters in this church. However, the exit stage is a bit difficult, as the stairs are quite narrow. But after a difficult staircase, you can climb to a platform where you can watch Tallinn at a 360-degree angle. The experience is worth walking the Narrow Stairs. Apart from Saint Olaf’s church, there are many other museums in Tallinn that you can visit.

Today, I briefed you about the places and events I saw in Tallinn, which managed to preserve all its historical texture. If you’re looking for fun, Tallinn won’t be the place for you, but if you’re a history buff, 4-5 days in Tallinn will make you very pleasant.

I don’t recommend staying long because there’s a chance you’ll get bored. However, I guarantee that you will feed yourself into history and take postcard photos during your stay.

See you on my next trip!

Take care!
