Thought I’d share what I liked playing last year (quarantine times) and mention some of the accolade winners of the damned 2020. Because we all like top lists, don’t we?
Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition
My first mention of honour definitely goes to Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition. Look at me, I am a die-hard Baldur’s Gate fan to an extent that although it’s been more than 10 years since the last time I played Baldur’s Gate, I yell “go for the eyes, Boo, GO FOR THE EYES! YAAAARGH!” from time to time (Minsc reference could be oblivious to some, I admit).
After all these years, in an hour or so, DOS2 was the only game that reminisced Baldur’s Gate. The turn-based combat that makes full use of the environment and elements is ultimately satisfying as you land a critical static cloud from the water on the ground evaporated with a fireball and then fused with a lightning bolt. DOS2 combat is not the only thing excels – RPGs are known for their storytelling and immersion abilities both of which do not owe to any combat elements. If you play as one of the pre-made characters, your RPG experience will climb another level for each one has their own background, beefs & crows and interactions with the habitants of Rivellon. The graphics might look dated to some but they are well enough to test a mid-level rig. The atmosphere is complemented with a beautiful score and immersive sound effects. Add a very clever and unrestrictive skill tree to that and you have got a winner from Larian Studios. They did their job so well that their next shot was at Baldur’s Gate. Yes, the third installment of the series after 20 freakin’ years will be released by the studio. The game is in early access right now with a hefty price tag for a game that has around a year to go gold.
Call of Duty Warzone
It was around March last year, the pandemic had hit the world hard for the first time and we were confined to our houses. I am on Twitter and I saw one of the accounts I followed was on air with Twitch and he was playing with a group of his friends, a multiplayer shooter. I remember seeing a stadium, some them hopping on ATVs, getting off at some place, communicating via voice chat to encircle another group by executing a pretty good teamwork. It was F2P and the title was Call of Duty Warzone. Well, Infinity Ward, you owe me a set of new eyes because of what you did and have been doing still. The craze caught us like another pandemic – all people I know who did not dig FPS or multiplayer, LIKE ME, were constantly pushing each other to go run the game and get hunted down. LOL, Warzone is a very taxing game on computer and in multiplayer First Person Shooters, Frames per Second are everything. Barely on 50 FPS with everything dragged to low in close combat would ensure your fate being sealed away for good.
My new gaming rig I spent quite a chunk and tears of agony to talk my wife into buying was mainly for a game that you could play for free. CoD:WZ asks for teamwork, a decent connection and a PC powerful enough to at least sustain 60 FPS during heavy fire to be enjoyed. It promises lots of mashed keyboards, click slapped mice and whole lotta hate-or-love fueled fun you could spend seamless hours with your friends in return.
2020 was barely bearable thanks to this pair but what them others voted for, lemme talk about them in the following post.
Game on!
